grOw/cOmic#6, page 119 completed!

With a little trepidation (and a lot of file duplication), I worked on page 119 over the last 2 days, completing it this evening. No file-damaging errors as I had on page 118, thankfully. Truly, I didn't expect any more, as I am not sure I have ever encountered such an error in Photoshop before (or, if I had, it was quite a while ago, and only once or twice).  We are approaching the halfway mark with 9 out of 21 page finished. I will begin page 120 (10th page of issue) tomorrow, and hopefully finish it up on Tuesday (normally, I'd say Monday, but it is a national holiday here in the USA, so I won't be working, and instead, hopefully enjoying the summer outside).

grOw/cOmic#6, page 118 completed! (Crisis averted)

Whew!  I have spent the last hour correcting what could have been a nasty set-back. In the grand scheme of things, I would have lost "only" a day (as compared to the 3 month usual turn-around for an issue).  But, it would have been a full 8-hour's day of work lost, which is heartbreaking.  I just was 15 minutes from finishing page 118, when all of a sudden, Photoshop threw a shoe (if it was a horse) and gave me a program error.  Odd boxes appeared randomly across the page, some layers inverted themselves, and others shifted colors. "Undo" didn't work. OK, odd, but not disastrous as I know I save, and save often! So, I quit the program without saving the last few minutes of work, and restarted. To my horror, all the messed-up areas of the page remained.  I think Photoshop somehow corrupted the file.  A full-day's worth of work gone!

Luckily, I work in many, many layers.  Upon closer inspection, the screw-up only affected certain layers, and luckily they weren't the "main" ones, but simply the "effects" layers. On a few panels, it DID affect the "main" layer, but only in oddly shaped rectangular areas.  These were easily repaintable. I had to redo some of the effect layers from scratch, however.  All in all, I had to spend just over an hour correcting the messed-up sections.  Whew!!!  I hate redoing work, especially work I've spent so much time on. I am glad I didn't have to redo the whole "paint stage" page (the original "ink & flats stage" is saved in another file).

So, enjoy the newest preview, as I put my heart back in my chest...

grOw/cOmic#6, page 117 completed!

For the third time this week, a page of issue 7 of grOw/cOmic#6 has been completed!  Page 117, the 7th of 21 pages in the issue, has been finished.  That means we are at the third-way mark! I'm working hard to get this extra-long issue out. Hang in there!

grOw/cOmic#6, page 116 completed!

Chip, chip, chipping away at issue 7. Page 116 — the 6th page of 21 — is now finished. The next page will be the third-way mark! A number of motion, grow, and liquid effects were once again required. However, the page didn't take as long as others with these. I think it's because there is less clothing that needs to be drawn and colored (which takes more time masking individual pices, and then inking and painting them).  Wink, wink.

grOw/cOmic#6, page 115 completed!

We are just about at the 25% mark with the completion of page 115, which is the 5th page of 21 pages in issue 7. These pages are fun to create, as there is quite the amount of action going on. Some special effects (such as movement, liquids, etc.) do take some extra time, but its worth it. On to page 116...

(And don't miss the other post from today on the Stimulation Summer Sale 2016!)

grOw/cOmic#6, page 114 completed!

I really wanted to finish page 114 yesterday, but between the detail needed to complete the page, as well as "real life" work getting in the way, I was unable to. I needed a couple of extra hours this morning to finally put this page to bed. You will notice that this is the ink and paint version of one of the pencil previews shown previously. It's now off to the next page...

grOw/cOmic#6, page 113 completed!

Another page of issue 7 has been completed! Just in time to quit for the day, I was able to finish page 113. You will notice that this preview is the color version of one of the preview pencils. You can see the how I go from pencils to full color with these 2 previews. Well, it's time to get ready to begin on page 114...

grOw/cOmic#6, page 112 completed!

Working away on the next issue, I was able to finish another page this week. Page 112, second page of the issue, is now done and I'm beginning the next one. I'm making great progress in this stage, and hope to do so for the rest of the issue.

grOw/cOmic#6, page 111 completed!

The ball is rolling now, and the first page of issue 7 (page 111 of the series) has been completed!  Issue 7 ("Dramatic Structures") will be longer than usual by an extra 3 pages. 21 pages, as compared to the normal 18, were required to fit all the action needed to play out before the final issue. So hang on, as the full ink and paint stage is revealed over the upcoming weeks and the countdown to issue 7's release begins!

grOw/cOmic#6, issue 7 pencils completed!

I finished the pencil drawings for the last 9 pages of issue 7 today at end of day. I spent a little more time scanning and cleaning them up as well. This way, come Monday, I will have a slew of new templates to create the ink and paint versions of the new pages!  Starting next week, I will be posting the per-page previews of this issue, as I usually due during production.  Remember, this one is 3 pages longer at 21 pages. Hang in there, it's going to be a wild ride!
