grOw/cinema 2, Episode 3 preliminary artwork completed!

I finished the art for the final frame of the latest issue today. Now, I say "preliminary artwork" in the title as there is still more work to be done — corrections to artwork already done (such as missing facial hair, jewelry, or other details), final rendering of the background (they are very detailed and take time, not all backgrounds have completed rendering at this time).

Then, of course, it's on to the post-production — proofreading and subsequent corrections; cover artwork; putting together the PDF; website HTML and images; programming the e-commerce end. I am HOPING to shoot for Friday, Dec 10th as the release date (1 week from today). Cross your fingers.  I am also hoping that I will have the issue completed before the website stuff so I can offer my patrons at my Patreon page an early release.

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 3, frame 67 completed

Busy week — filled with great new frames and detail. I also added to the script and sketched out the storyboards to another 4 frames, bringing the issue up to 74. With 67 completed, we are at the 91% mark!

But also, unfortunately, one riddled with set backs as I lost a lot of rendering time due to app crashes (one 20 hour rendering, and one 12 hour rendering both lost). Some of this also slowed down the drawing of the frames.

It's been a very busy time over the last few weeks!  Working hard on my Patreon page as well as grOw/cinema 2.  I also took some time off again to see family who I haven't seen in about 3 years, partially due to the COVID. Good to see Mom again!

Been super busy — Frame 48 completed for grOw/cinema 2

I just realized it's been 3 weeks since my last post here. Sorry about that. I've been so engrossed into my work, that I forgot to post.

Well, I finished frame 48 of grOw/cinema. I had to create a new 3D background for a new scene, rework some of the script, and work on some intense images (many characters, dramatic lighting, etc, etc). 

I've also been hard at work over at my Patreon page! (Patreon.com/bustartist). Check it out!

Since it's been so long, here are a couple of grOw/cinema previews.

grOw/cinema 2, Ep.3 frame 37 completed!

There were no updates on the last 2 Fridays as I was away on a vacation, visiting family we haven't seen since before the pandemic. I had been away from Sept 9 - 19.

I'm back, and at first, tackled my Patreon Commissions and then continued with grOw/cinema (some times, concurrently).

As of now, 37 frames have been completed, which puts us passed the halfway mark (specifically, 53% done).

grOw/cinema 2, Ep.3, frame 31 completed!

I was able to complete another 10 frames this week, some of which were highly detailed (water effects take time!). This puts us at about the 44% mark, unless I add a few more frames (which I am mulling over doing).

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 3, frame 21 completed!

It's been a while since my last update here. But work on the next issue is well underway! Since the last release, I've been working hard on both the script and the main 3D background model (one of the most detailed I've ever built). The script took some honing and reworking to get a great story out of the sparse outline I had for this chapter. It had been the least-developed episode in my huge 2000-word outline for this story, but I had specific points it needed to make. I think I have hit all those points and then some! 

Today, I was able to complete frame 21 out of 70. We are now at the 30% completion mark!

grOw/cinema 2, Frame 62 completed!

I had spent a lot of time catching up on my Patreon rewards last week for June (since I got a late start because I had to catch up on May's rewards due to the failure of my computer hard drive for almost 3 weeks).  I am now back on schedule for my Patreon page, and am working on grOw/cinema within my Patreon work as normal.

I finished page 62 today. I just recently also completed the last scene in terms of script and storyboards. I originally had this issue end on frame 60. However, I knew I had to add one more segment to truly cement the narrative of this issue. With 68 frames in this issue, I am now 91% done!

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 2, frame 53 completed!

I worked like a whirlwind and finished my Patreon May obligations last week. I then started on June's rewards. While I still have more to go, I was not behind, so I decided to work on some more grOw/cinema 2. I was able to complete 5 new frames. I also wasted a huge amount of time recreating 2 frames that I didn't realized I had already completed — doh! Seems my local external hard drive did not back-up before my computer failed, but my cloud back had (thank goodness). 

53 frames are now done out of the final 65-69 frames. The count is not exact as I haven't nailed down the final scene that I am adding to. It was originally about 60 frames, but I wanted to add something that I think will add to the "climax" of the issue. (wink wink)

I'm baaaaaaaaack! What happened you ask?

If you haven't seen some of my other communication fronts (Patreon, Twitter, etc), you may not know that I had a major hard drive failure back on Thu., May 20. I sat down to work that morning and was greeted by a black screen with a folder icon that had a blinking "?" in the middle. Uuuhhh...

Well, the drive WAS about 8 years old, so it was doomed to fail soon. (And was showing some signs that, looking back, should have warned me.)

However, the good news is that I had everything backed up, including all work that I completed the day before.

I would have made an update here to let you know but... I had forgotten my password to the blog (since my computer saves it for me).  Oops!

I received my computer back from the repair shop this past Wednesday, and I've spend the last 2 days reinstalling 2 TB of files, and reinstalling numerous Apps and settings. While I still have some of these to load onto the new drive, I will be focusing on my Patreon work that was due in the month of May before I start on grOw/cinema again. I am sure I will spending most of next week working on this work. It is possible I will finish this before Friday, and will be able to start back on "grOwing to a Crescendo" again.

grOw/cinema 2, Ep.2, frame 44 completed!

Another 7 frames finished this week. It was a busy week, working on grOw/cinema, dealing with Western Digital (ordered a new back-up hard drive that failed in less than 48 hours!! grrr); working on Patreon stuff; and mulling over the current script to add some frames to the end of the chapter. Total frames will be between 66-70, so that means we are approximately
at the 65% mark!

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 2, frame 37 completed.

I wish I could have gotten more work done on the next issue this week, but I hit a lot of "real life" snags this week that slowed me down. I was able to complete 9 frames, but I had hoped for 12-14.

(I had some work being done on our home that I had to attend to. I bought an new back-up hard drive to replace one that failed, only to have it fail on me in 2 days and long wait on the telephone support line. And a few other crappy things.)

I was able to complete 8 more frames this week, as well as getting a great start on frame 29. The rest of the week was filled with creating Patreon art and getting my 2nd COVID vaccine shot (whoo hoo!).

I didn't get as many frames completed this week as I had last week. A lot of stuff was going on — some personal appointments, working on Patreon art, and spending hours scanning and diagnosis my slooooow computer. The good thing on this last point is that I think I solved it. Things are running MUCH smoother now.

This week, I completed 13 more frames for grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 2. I made some great progress, as this week I also had worked on some Patreon art, as well as made some edits to the 3D backgrounds for this issue.

In the last few weeks, I was able to complete the initial script of the new issue, sketched out the storyboards and was able to complete the first 2 frames of the issue today. I would have been able to work on another frame or 2, but I had an appointment to get the 1st dose of my COVID vaccine today (yippee!).

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 1, frame 66 completed! Issue 97% done!

Made pretty good progress this week, completing 10 new frames. Some real life work as well as storm prep (we had serious storm warnings going off around the state, including multiple tornado warnings), prevented me from doing even more.

I hope to have a release by next Friday, but that's going to be a little tight. Possible, but tight. A few more frames to complete, cover image, full issue creation, proofreading and corrections, website graphics and programming. Plus, I need to begin work on the Commissions starting Monday (it's my standing goal to get all Patreon awards out before the end of the month in which they were begun). Yes, I have the following week, but only 3 days, and I want to give you all time to download and view (especially, if you plan on taking your leave at the end of the month — something I hope that you don't).

We're getting really close! If I can get it out by next Friday, I will also feel so much better in getting a new issue out quicker than Episode XVIII of grOw/cinema 1 (which took 126 days! But, I'll admit, that issue was a LOT of work!). Next Friday's release would come in at 79 days.

grOw/cinema 2, Episode 1, frame 56 completed!

I was able to complete 12 more frames this week, as well as get a great head-start on a 13th. We are now at the 81% completion mark! Depending on how things go, a release will probably be around Fri., Apr 26th (but could extend to Fri. May 2). Here's hoping for smooth sailing to reach that earlier goal!

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 1, frame 45 completed!

I was able to complete 10 frames this week, putting us at a total frame-count of 45. I also scripted the scene I had been debating on adding to the issue. With this added scene, this release will be 67 frames. So, this means that we are now at the 67% finished mark — two-thirds!

Last weekend was SizeCon[micro] (a.k.a. "online"). It was a great success and people loved it. I chatted with some fans over video; showed some oooold artwork; gave a demonstration of behind the scenes on the creation of the grOw series; and joined others on a number of panels, including one alongside my wife, Juliekat.

grOw/cinema 2, Episode I, frame 35 completed!

I was able to complete 4 frames this week. It's not a lot on grOw/cinema, but I was still very busy producing content for both my Patreon page (last week of the month is always a flurry) as well as for SizeCon which starts tonight! If you are going, I'll see you there!

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 1, frame 31 completed!

I was able to complete another 11 frames this week! On top of that, I also built a new 3D background for the next scene. Add this all up and some great progress was made this week!

I am not sure if I will be adding 5-6 more frames to this issue yet. If I don't, we are now just past the halfway mark!  If I do add them, then we're at the 47% mark.

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. 1, frame 20 completed

Lots of stuff went on this week, including some Patreon work, some "real life" work, and just some "real life." Issue 1 now has 20 frames complete.

grOw/cinema 2, frame 16 completed!

I was able to get another 8 frames done this week. I also had to spend some time creating a new 3D background, as the story has shifted to a new scene. I have no "completion percentage" yet, since I am not sure if I will be adding a few more frames, or leaving that to a later episode.

grOw/cinema 2, Ep. I, 8 frames completed!

The art on grOw/cinema 2 (yet to be titled), Episode I, is well underway. I was able to complete 8 frames this week, and got a great head start on a 9th. Count down to the first issue's release starts! I still have to build 2 or 3 more 3D backgrounds, but I wanted to jump into the first scene, since the background was ready to go (see previous post).

 I went to my PO Box today to pick up mail for BA Studios, and found a Priority Envelope in there to my surprise. No return address or name but zip code that it was sent from is in Colorado, US.  (I only go the PO Box maybe once every months or two.) It was sent Dec 21st — I only saw it today.

Thank you so much for the gift and handwritten note! What a surprise! Wow. I am note sure if you are a Patron, but shouting out here in case you are. Will add this note to Patreon and Twitter, hopefully you will see it, whoever you are.  :-)

Next Project well underway — grOw/cinema 2 !

grOw/cinema, "The Ever-Expanding Universe" has ended it's "Season 1" and will be going on hiatus. Don't worry, it will be back.  I've been working on this series for 3 1/2 years now, so I feel the need for a break (as I've always mentioned, but never thought I'd go this long without one). Depending on the reception of the new series, I may make a few chapters of the new cinema, and jump back and forth between it and cinema 1.

Right now, I am working on a new project. It will be a new story in the grOw/cinema format, with a definitive ending (unlike "The Ever-Expanding Universe"). It is rich in world-building, characters, and story development.

The initial script is written and the storyboarding is complete! I am working on building the 3D backgrounds (there are 3 settings in the first issue). When that's done, I will begin the artwork and post previews.

For now, here are a few previews of the first scene's background, taking place in a local, music bar.

I just finished the final frame of this Episode (80 frames)! Now, it's on to the post-production work: proofreading; fixing; cover art; PDF creation; website graphics and HTML; setting-up the eCommerce for the product.  If all goes well, I am hoping to have a release this Friday!

OH! BTW, last night at our dining table, as my wife was beginning to proofread the issue for the first time (she does so 3-4 times over a period of a few evenings), she remarked, "Honey, you've outdone yourself!"   :-D

(Sorry for few updates the last few Fridays. With both Christmas and New Year's falling on a Friday, it kind of messed up my normal routine.)
